What is oxygen cutting?
Oxygen cutting is the practice of introducing oxygen to increase the heating temperature of a cutting gas, such as acetylene. By introducing the oxygen into the flame via the cutting torch head, the heat is increased and the operator is able to fine-tune the cutting flame to produce a desired effect.
Alternative Fuel Gases | ILMO Products Company
Propane (C3H8) Propane is a single-component liquefied fuel gas used for oxy-fuel gas cutting, heating, brazing, and soldering. The main source of this gas is the crude-oil and gas mixtures obtained from active oil and natural gas wells. It is also produced in certain oil refining processes and in the recycling of natural gas.
15 Safety Precautions In Gas Cutting To Avoid Explosive Accidents
Jul 23, 2019 · Acetylene is commonly used in gas cutting. In welding and metal cutting, acetylene is widely used. It is very flammable and can bring disastrous accidents if not handled with precautions. In addition to the acetylene, oxygen is widely used too for gas cutting.
What is the difference between gas welding and gas cutting ...
welding is completely opposite phenomenon of gas cutting. Gas cutting: * Gas cutting uses acetylene and oxygen gases to preheat metals to red hot then using pure oxygen burns away the metal. it is effective when metals are oxidized at this tempera...
What are the hazards from gases during welding and cutting?
3.2 Health Hazards 3.2.1 Heat and Burns. Burns of the eyes and exposed parts of the body may occur owing to spatting of incandescent metal particles. 3.2.2 Eye Injuries. There are two types of radiations, viz.: (i) Ionizing (such as x-rays), and (ii) non-ionizing (such as ultraviolet, visible light or infrared). 3.2.3 Exposure to Fumes & Gases. ...
Cutting | Linde Gas
All thermal cutting methods share two key success factors, namely the precise application of energy and a high-energy gas jet. The most suitable thermal cutting method depends on the type of material, the section thickness, the necessary cutting quality and dimensional tolerances.
Gas selection guide - plasma cutting aluminum, mild/stainless ...
Feb 02, 2016 · Argon hydrogen is the gas of choice for thick stainless and aluminum cutting (> 1/2") The mixture typically used is 35% hydrogen: 65% argon (H-35). Argon hydrogen is the hottest burning plasma gas and provides the maximum cutting capability. (Argon hydrogen is used in water injection torches up to 1000 amps for cutting up to 6" stainless).
What are the hazards from gases during welding and cutting? - TWI
For gas shielded welding processes such as TIG, MIG/MAG, FCAW, shielding gases may be inert gases, such as argon, helium and nitrogen, or argon-based mixtures containing carbon dioxide, oxygen or both. Helium may be added to argon/carbon dioxide mixtures to improve productivity. Carbon dioxide (CO 2) may be used, on its own, in MAG and FCAW.
Using alternate fuel gases for cutting and heating
May 01, 2019 · Cutting torches (and cutting attachments for combination torches) mix fuel gas and oxygen using different technologies. Those with a spiral mixer (also often called an equal pressure mixer) are calibrated to work with both alternative fuel gases (which use lower delivery pressures) and acetylene (which uses slightly higher delivery pressures).
GAS CUTTING - GlobalSecurity.org
GAS CUTTING The common methods used in cutting metal are oxygas flame cutting, air carbon-arc cutting, and plasma-arc cutting. The method used depends on the

The hidden costs of laser cutting gases
Jul 06, 2009 · Getting high-quality gases in the door is the easy part; preventing gas contamination is the tricky part. High-purity regulators are designed with high leak integrity, because only a few parts per million of oxygen or moisture from the atmosphere in your shop can damage the laser or cause poor-quality cuts.
Cutting | Linde (former AGA) Industrial Gases
The cutting speed depends on the purity of the oxygen and the shape of the cutting gas jet. High purity oxygen, optimised nozzle design and suitable gas supply means high productivity. In plasma cutting and laser cutting with nitrogen, the material is heated up to melting temperatures and the cutting gas blows out the melt.
What is propylene cutting gas?
Propylene is an attractive alternative to propane for heating and cutting due to its superior combustion performance. It is also widely used as a fuel gas for high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) processes. In addition, the chemical and plastics industries rely on propylene as a fuel gas.
What is cutting gas?
Definition of gas cutting. : the cutting of a preheated metal by a jet of oxygen. You must — there are over 200,000 words in our free online dictionary, but you are looking for one that’s only in the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary.

What Gas do Plasma Cutters use?
May 22, 2018 · Cutting gas (SG) – Cutting gas determines the cutting speed and the cutting results. First, the energy derived from the arc helps soften and melt the metal. The melted metal is then pushed out of the cutting gas. Keep in mind that the cutting gases used differ based on the thickness and material type.
Oxy-fuel welding and cutting - Wikipedia
Other gases that may be used are propylene, liquified petroleum gas (LPG), propane, natural gas, hydrogen, and MAPP gas. Liquid fuel cutting systems use such fuels as Gasoline (Petrol) Diesel, Kerosene and possibly some aviation fuels.
Plasma Cutting - Recommended Gases - ESAB
Plasma Cutting - Recommended Gases. Compressed Airis the most commonly used gas for lower current plasma cutting and works well for most metals from gauge thickness to 1 inch. It leaves an oxidized cut surface.Compressed air can also be used for plasma gouging on carbon steel. Nitrogenis often used for higher current plasma systems and for cutting materials up to 3 inches thick.
